Circumcision – Benefits and Risks

Circumcision is a procedure (usually performed by a doctor) in which excessive skin found on the top of the penis is removed. This procedure has roots in ancient times. Many religions advise circumcision of males while they are still children and in some cases even few days after they are born. According to some experts, the reason behind the popularity of circumcision in many cultures is that they consider male genitalia to be impure and aesthetic in their natural form. In some cases (some African cultures) this circumcision is performed in women too. Besides the religious reasons, there can be few other reasons too. For example, some men have trouble pulling the foreskin of the penis back because that causes a lot of pain for them. The pain is completely gone with the removal of the foreskin.

Many women also find uncircumcised penises to be impure and unattractive and they find having sex with circumcised men to be more comfortable. But they often forget the fact that a circumcised penis can affect their sexual pleasure too. It is scientifically proved that circumcision reduces sexual sensibility of both partners participating in the sex act which means that it can affect the sexual pleasure too. The foreskin of the penis acts as an erogenous tissue, which among other things means that improves the sexual sensitivity of the penis during sexual intercourse. The foreskin also acts as a protector against external factors. The glans penis is the place where different parts of the nerves intertwine. The constant exposure of glans penis in circumcised men eventually causes decrease of sensitivity on touching and arousal in the penis. According to some researchers that have tested circumcised men that took this procedure after they’ve become sexually active have shown that many of them had decreased sexual sensitivity compared to the time when they were uncircumcised.

Besides the difference in sensitivity, there are few risks linked with circumcision. For example, African cultures perform this circumcision in young boys without anesthesia and sterile surgical supplies, which in many cases leads to infections, diseases and even death. Many boys end up with excessive removal of foreskin. This situation is even worse if we know that the consequences of this improper removal cannot be noticed while they are young. They will feel the effects when they start practicing sex. In this period they might feel painful erections and other erectile problems that are direct result of the improper circumcision carried out by non-medical staff.

It is good to know that circumcision also brings some benefits. There are many experts that claim that circumcision is directly linked with the lowering of risk of penile cancer. The possibility of occurrence of urinary tract infections is also reduced. As we have mentioned before glans of the circumcised penis is less sensitive which means that the stimulation must be more powerful which eventually leads to more powerful sex.

Circumcision is a matter of personal choice in many cultures and many experts advice staying away from circumcision.
